Final Year Flex

July is a special time for everyone on JET. Either you just arrived, you’re a seasoned veteran, or, as many of us were, you said farewell. So, Ehime AJET decided to honor those of us leaving Ehime with one final big beach flex! It was a day all about fun in the sun, good vibes, and even better company as our returning friends got to celebrate their last month in the mikan prefecture.

The event started around 1 PM on Saturday, July 12th where twenty of us piled out of the train and headed to Baishinji Beach. The weather was scorching, but the skies were clear, and the water was (most importantly) cool. Coupled with the blankets, beach gear, and delicious food/drinks, it made for a surprisingly comfortable day out. Some of us relaxed with good books under the shady canopy of colorful umbrellas, while others went out for a swim. There was even a swing nearby that made the flex even more tranquil. However, it wasn’t all sandcastles and beach towels. Once the volley ball was out friends became rivals in a spirited match that made a huge splash on an already great day out.

Overall, it was the perfect sendoff for our departing mikans. Having called a prefecture as sunny and warm as Ehime home for the past few years, it only felt appropriate to have one last big flex out on the beach. Kieren Boyd said of the event, “Personally, I thought it was a great event, especially considering how quickly it was put together. It’s reassuring to see a good turnout for something short-notice like that.” The Final Year Flex ended at 4:00, an hour after the scheduled end. With memories made, good food had, and probably a bit of sunburn, everyone headed home with heads held high. It may have been the last big event with some of our friends as ALTs, but we made it the best it could be.

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out this month’s event article. We plan events year-round so be on the lookout for what we have coming up. We’d love to see all of you there!

Best, 2025 AJET team
